Yorkie will pee on weewee pads but wont poop on them...how do I fix it?
I have a new Yorkie he is about 10 weeks old and he is doing well with peeing on the weewee pads but he won't poop on them, he seems to poop everywere but on the pads.
What can i do to get him to poop on the pads?
Pee pee pads can be a bit of a problem to use, and this is a pretty common example of that.
You could try some of the 'scent marker' type spray that you can buy at petstores which attracts your pup to the pad, it sometimes helps.
Also, the next time your pup poops elsewhere, pick up the stool and put it on the pad, then show it to him.
Don't allow him to run around unsupervised which gives him the opportunity to poop wherever he wants. I'd recommend using a crate for housebreaking purposes (see my Crate Training A Puppy page to learn all about this), which will prevent a lot of these 'accidents'.
Many puppies prefer to use a doggie litter box, or one of the portable dog pottys that have astro turf. Check out my Potty Train A Puppy page for a list of these.
If you consistently supervise your pup when he's indoors, use the crate to help prevent opportunities for 'mistakes', and reward/praise him whenever he uses the pads, with time and patience he will 'get the picture'. Try the scent spray, and the litter box/potty too if you want to.
Best of luck with your little puppy.
