what do i do? and i take her out all time and she uses puppy door but would rather go in house. what do i do ? and what do i do if i see her do it?
Hi Brooke Your puppy smells the scent of your boyfriends' dogs urine and is urinating where she finds a 'scent post' (ie where another dog has urinated previously). This is normal, but obviously you want to teach her that only the outdoors is okay for elimination.
I would recommend buying a crate and using that when you visit your boyfriends' house. In fact, it would be good to use it at home too. Crates are the best tool for housebreaking, and are very useful for keeping your pup safe when you can't be supervising and for travel. Check out my Crate Training page for all the info. you need on this.
You will need to be very vigilant when she is at your boyfriends' and isn't in her crate. Take her outside to pee/poop every 30 minutes, and at the first sign that she needs to 'go', and praise her lavishly when she eliminates outside.
If she makes a mistake and pees indoors and you see her, quickly tell her "NO" in a firm voice, and take her outside immediately. Praise her if she 'finishes up' outside. There's never any point in scolding a dog for something she's done wrong after the fact. She will have no idea why you're mad and it will frighten her.
