puppy schedule if owner works midnight shift
I work midnight shift and am trying to find best routine for puppy, should I take her to work with me at first and keep her on "day schedule" at night, or will she sleep and be content in crate for the evening...10:30pm-7:30am.
This might be a bit tricky at first, but your pup will naturally want to be active during the day and sleep at night, as her body clock will be set in sync with sunrise and sunset.
If you can take her to work with you, I'd recommend doing that and letting her sleep in her crate while you work. She will probably need a potty break at least once during the night, so it's better if she's with you where you can let her out.
Then when you get off work, you can give her some exercise before you go to sleep. Young puppies nap a lot and she may be content to nap while you sleep as long as she gets plenty of exercise both before you go to bed, and when you get up before you go to work.
If the weather is moderate where you live, you could give her a bit of time outdoors in a playpen or exercise pen set up on the grass. As long as it's not too hot or too cold, and she's in a fenced in and safe area, you should be able to leave her unsupervised for an hour or two just as long as you can hear her if she cries.
This situation is just going to take a bit of 'trial and error' to figure out, but puppies are pretty adaptable and I think you'll find a way to make it work. At least she will have the opportunity to be with you around the clock, which is a lot better for her than being left alone for hours on end.
Best of luck with her.
