We have a 5 month old Boxer puppy. She is house trained during the day, but at night she won't go outside to go potty.
She has easy access to the outside (the same way she goes out during the day). What can we do? She pees in the kitchen and poops in the living room?
Hi Karen I would recommend getting a crate and using that at night. She is old enough to have reasonable bladder/bowel control and shouldn't NEED to eliminate during the night.
Most pups won't eliminate in their crate if they can help it, and if you make sure she has her evening meal by around 6pm, and pick up her water bowl by around 7:30 - 8pm, she should be fairly 'empty' by bedtime.
She obviously doesn't yet fully understand that she can't pee or poop indoors, so you need to prevent her from having the opportunity to do so. Once she gets into the habit of 'holding it' during the night, you should eventually be able to leave her out of her crate if you want to.
Check out my Crate Training page for all the tips and advice you need on this. Best of luck with your pup, she's a sweetheart! Who could resist that face?
