I just bought a 9 month Bichon Havanese from a family where several other dogs were present. He is slowly warming up to me and loves playing with my other dogs but he is not eating.
I am feeding him exactly the same dog food as he is used too. This will be his second day with me. He is acting fine and full of energy but I am becoming concerned. Help any ideas?
Hi Lynn If your pup seems happy and healthy apart from the lack of appetite (and from what you describe I think that's the case), then I wouldn't worry too much about this right now.
He's not a young puppy and has only just left a home that is probably all he can ever remember, he's bound to be stressed and anxious, and confused. A loss of appetite is a normal result of this.
I think you may find my Bringing Home A New Puppy page helpful. The majority of the principles and behaviors apply to a pup, or dog, coming into a new home regardless of their age.
Just give him lots of love and attention, offer him his food regularly (and pick it up after 20 mins or so if he hasn't eaten it) and be patient. I think he'll start eating as soon as he feels a bit more 'at home'.
JoJo is adorable and I'm sure he's going to be very happy with you once he gets over his natural inclination to be a bit 'homesick' for his other home and doggie friends.
