My 7 mo. old male Maltipoo is potty trained !! However, he's recently started to chew on the carpet.

Although he's crate trained and stays in it all night, i'd like to start leaving the crate open all night, but i'm afraid he'll destroy the carpet at night while we're asleep ?
Do i wait til the " chewing " problem is resolved before i leave the crate door unlocked ?
Hi Barbara Chewing is an all-time favorite puppy activity, and although it seems to peak during the teething phase (up to around 6 months or so), it can linger for quite a while!
If you want to protect your carpet then I think you either have to leave him crated during the night, or confine him to a room, or area, that's not carpeted. Using sprays such as Bitter Apple and so on can help, but a determined 'chewer' will often ignore them.
If he loves a particular toy or bone, you could try leaving a few of those scattered around to redirect his chewing activities, but if the carpet is his favorite you may be better just to wait for him to grow out of this habit.
