I have a 8 mo. old maltipoo. He just started hiding under our bed. He barks and whines till we go in and try to get him out, then he runs around and act's very playful.
He is not scared or hurt in any way. It seems like he might have found a good way to get our attention. Should I do anything about this???
Hi Jennie It seems as though your pup has invented a new game! As he's not hurt or upset, and seems to enjoy being chased out and around, it's most likely just his doggie version of 'hide-and-go-seek'. Nothing to worry about.
There's no harm in playing this game with him whenever you feel like it, but I wouldn't do it EVERY time he wants to, or you could find yourself playing this game 24/7!
You could set up a 'trigger word' such as "let's play" or something similar, and always use say that in a happy voice right before you join in his game.
Join in (remembering to use the trigger word) if the timing is right, if not, you can just ignore him, or divert his attention with a tasty chew toy or something that doesn't need your input. He should learn that if he hears "let's play" then the fun is on, and if not then he needs to find something else to do.
