We have a 4 month old puppy, and everytime ANYONE leaves, she cries to high heaven, What can we do to get her not to get so emotional?
Hi Joe It sounds as though your puppy may be suffering from separation anxiety. Some puppies just find it very difficult to be left alone, and make a huge fuss. If she cries this way when someone leaves, but there's still someone to keep her company she may be excessively anxious.
Keeping 'entrances' and 'exits' low key and calm may help diffuse the situation a bit. Dogs are very intuitive and they pick up on the emotions of the people around them. A calm atmosphere at home helps to keep a puppy calm.
It's difficult to say for sure without actually having seen how she behaves, but I think if you read my Separation Anxiety in your Dog page (and the other pages it links to), you will find some advice and suggestions in there that could help.
You'll also find herbal remedies that can be very helpful for dogs who are overly anxious, or get stressed easily, on my Dog Separation Anxiety Medication. These are a gentle and safe way of helping a pup calm down.
You may also want to talk to your veterinarian about this problem, he/she may have some other suggestions. Best of luck with your pup.
