I have a 8 week old beagle, who wee's and poops on mat which is good, and sleeps in her crate all night with just a little cry.
I am going to be working 6 hours a day, will she be ok, as I feel very emotional at the moment but don't now why
please help me x
Hi Jemma I don't know if you're feeling emotional about leaving your pup while you work, or if it's something else that's making you upset so it's difficult to know what to say that will help!
As for your puppy being alone for 6 hours a day, yes, that's a long time for an 8 week old puppy and she probably won't be able to 'hold it' in her crate for that period. However, as she's used to using her pee pee pads, you could set her up in a puppy playpen, or a small fenced-in area of your kitchen or laundry room, with her pads and some safe, sturdy toys while you are gone.
She's doing very well right now for one so young, so hopefully that will continue. If she starts messing on the floor instead of her pads though, you will need to crate her instead and see how she does. If she can't hold it and does pee/poop in her crate then you would need to try to find someone who can come to your house mid-day to let her out for a potty break and some playtime.
As she grows her bladder/bowel control will improve and she'll be able to be left for longer periods. However, it's very important to make sure that she gets lots of one-on-one playtime and love and attention from you when you are at home - to balance up the time spent alone.
If you are feeling sad and upset about things in general your puppy will pick up on that feeling. Dogs are very intuitive and 'read' human emotions quite easily. They tend to mimic their owners feelings, and if you're anxious and upset she will feel that way too, so try to keep calm, happy and up-beat as much as possible.
