american staffy won't stop barking and whining
Hi there i have a 7 week old american staffy who won't stop barking, whining, biting and chewing after it wakes up in the middle of the night. I don't know what to do.
I don't want to get rid of him but i want to stop the barking, biting and chewing. I dunno what to do. Do i buy a muzzle or anti bark collar or what. Please help.
This is very normal behavior for a young puppy. He likely wakes up because he needs a potty break. It's important to take him outside immediately so that he can relieve himself, but then he needs to go right back into the crate!
Ignore his crying and whining and barking, and with the exception of the potty breaks, never take him out of his crate while he's creating a fuss. That will only reinforce his behavior.
I know it seems endless, and it's very tiring, but if you're consistent in this, within a few nights he will start to quieten down. It just takes time and patience.
A muzzle or no-bark collar is over-kill for this sort of behavior, and would likely frighten him and only make the situation worse.
He's a baby, and is lonely and wants to be with his 'pack' (that's you), but he needs to learn in a loving, consistent way, that he stays in his crate at night.

Best of luck with your little guy.
